The NFL Trade Deadline is Heating up in New York

Earlier this evening a blockbuster trade was made between the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers. The Patriots surprisingly traded the guy who was believed by many to be the future in New England, Jimmy Garropolo.

Garropolo was a second round pick in 2014, and has had limited playing time, simply because he is playing behind the second best QB in the league, Tom Brady. Yes I said second best, Aaron Rodgers is better, but thats a discussion for another time. Nonetheless the Patriots received a second round pick in exchange for Garropolo and sent him to San Francisco.

This shocking trade has major ramifications throughout the league, as San Francisco was believed to be a top destination for the Washington Redskins Kirk Cousins. With the acquisition of Jimmy G the Niners are out on Cousins and it has supposedly opened the door for the New York Jets and Denver Broncos.

The New York Jets and Denver Broncos are reportedly in talks with Washington in regards to Cousins, a Quarterback that they have been tied to the past few seasons. Cousins is a guy that I have had my eye on for awhile, knowing that he is an above average QB, and that would be an upgrade over anyone that the Jets have had the past two decades.

The Jets should go after Cousins by any means necessary. I know he is a free agent after this season, so he could just leave and the Jets would get nothing in return, but if they trade for him they can try to work out a contract extension as the season progresses.

The Jets biggest hole is at Quarterback and they have not developed a good player at this position for as long as I have been alive, so it would be smart for them to take a shot at a developed player.

There is no information as to how deep the talks are between the Redskins and Broncos, or the Jets and the Redskins, but both teams are trying to make a move for the Quarterback. They will have to move fast if they are going to acquire Captain Kirk as the NFL trade deadline is tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET.

If I was running the Jets I would offer the second rounder we acquired in the Sheldon Richardson, Jermaine Kearse trade, and a future third or fourth round draft pick.

All that the Gang Green fans can hope for is that they acquire Cousins before the deadline because there is no telling what Cousins could get in free agency, and the top QB prospects in college aren’t looking very enticing.¬†We will see if the Jets are bold enough to make a move by 4 p.m. tomorrow.
