The New York Islanders have been the talk of New York this season hockey as they sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders are led by their Captain and five-time all-star John Tavares. The Isles this season are just 16-9 and have a total of 34 points.
Tavares is off to hot start for New York with a total of 31 points this season and 17 of those points are goals. New York is looking to get back into the playoffs this year after just missing them last year for the first time in the past 4 seasons.
Personally, I think the Islanders have the team this season to make it make it back to playoffs but the goalie position is still what kills them. Thomas Greiss and Jaroslav Halák have been the two in net for Isles this season but haven’t been consistent enough to trust on a nightly basis, especially for a championship contending team.
Greiss is a good goaltender, but he is definitely not someone that can win your team a cup. Luckily the Islanders offense has been playing well so far this season with the help of Anders Lee, Andrew Ladd, the newly acquired Jordan Eberle just before the season, and the young stud Mathew Barzal.
The Islanders are also focusing on their other young stud, Josh Ho-Sang who hasn’t really had quite the hot start to the season as the Islanders expected. For Islander fans, it’s definitely a fun and exciting season to watch so far as they keep winning games and bringing excitement to the ice on a nightly basis.
We’re going to have to wait and see what happens later on in the season if they make a move for a stronger goaltender and if they even make the playoffs. As of now though, it looks like it’s already off to a promising season for the Islanders.
