There is nothing quite like curling up on the couch on a nice weekend afternoon and enjoying a little bit of sports. Maybe throwing on the PJ’s getting a bag of chips and calling it a day.
But, just like Santa has to work on Christmas, a whole crew of people are spending their weekend hard at work, doing their best to deliver the high-quality entertainment and news to you.
Working in sports production and media isn’t the easiest job in the world. The worst part about it is how unnoticed many of the men and women behind the scenes are. There are the coaches who change the way the games are played, the agents who decide which stars play where, and the executives who alter the shape of the leagues. However, there are only certain people that can get all of this information and display it for you.
In the world we live in there is a plethora of people needed to get the top quality entertainment to your TV and phone screen. Many people have always thought that being in production could just get you closer to the action, however, in fact, that is the case but in today’s world things are now crazier than ever before.
As we enter a new digital age, many things have changed and are still changing. The amount of setting up, prepping and overall showing up for a long day of work would be astonishing to the average person who doesn’t know much about sports production.
Preparation is one of the biggest keys to all media and production. In the world of sports, you must be able to work quickly. Unexpected things are going to happen during a live sports production, but if you are prepared for all the things you can control, it allows you to react freely to the things you can’t. At the end of the day, you must be able to work off mistakes because they are just inevitable.
There is no such thing as a normal day when you are behind the scenes of an event that isn’t scripted.
From the media to the TV production everyone must be on top of their game at all times. Every individual on the crew has an important role that is essential to a smooth production. When producing live sports it is really about getting a team and aiming toward a common goal. In order to get full success, you must get everyone on the same page from the beginning of the morning which at times, can start at 4 am and go until 4 well after the sun goes down.
The long days these men and woman have is something most people just cannot understand because when it comes to watching sports all we really see is the action on the field of play. From the press box to the production truck nonstop effort is being put in all throughout the day. Every single person has a job that needs to get done.
The thing about the behind the scenes work is that if one person does something wrong it can throw off an entire days work.
Many people like the idea of working in sports, however, not many have what it takes. Full dedication is always necessary. It is sad sometimes to see how unnoticed these people are because of the amount of work they put into a single day. This is the big stage and here, you only have one chance to get it right and you bet these people will be ready.
In this business, things move at 110 mph. You may see the action on the field, but the real action is something we don’t see. So much of the way we watch and enjoy sports is determined by people who have never participated in a professional athletic event in their lives. Ain’t that something? This business is serious, fast, and entertaining all in one. Many of these men and women are the true heroes in our sports world. As a fan, we thank you.
